Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School Horncastle

Year 9 Netball Match

Our talented netball team eagerly awaited the second round of the coastal fixtures which were played on the new astro surface at Skegness Grammar School on March 9th.

Under the captaincy of Flora Gemmel (GK), advice and encouragement was given and goal targets were agreed upon by the team for all matches.

Banovallum were the first opponents and despite not getting the first centre pass, quick interceptions enabled Hattie Trestrail (GA) to find her shooting form and opened up an unassailable lead, with excellent support from Jasmine Bontoft (GS), of 10-0 at half time. Centre court play between Jess Frick (C) and Maggie Ward (WA) sustained the attacking play into the circle with the final score being 17-1.

Barnes Wallis were the next opponents. A strategic move of playing positions brought Bella Mason (WD) on court which linked play throughout the whole court providing the shooters with ample opportunities and Jasmine opened the scoring. In defence, Flora, Olivia Maplethorpe (GD) denied the opposition for much of the match and Millie Walker now playing Centre, swiftly sent the ball back up to the attacking circle. 15-2 was the final scoreline.

One to go. With the sun going down and the evening chill apparent, Skegness Grammar were the final opponents. Marking from both sides was tight and a few errors crept in. Jess Frick now playing WD led the charge and all the girls upped their game. Jess and Millie, continuing at centre,  converted an 8-0 half time score into a 20-1 win which summed up true teamwork, excellent trust and understanding of spacial awareness on court and conviction in their play.

Well done girls.

You remain undefeated and by the way – exceeded all your goal targets!

Thanks to Alice Kemp for travelling and umpiring.
