International School Award
QEGS is a proud holder of the International School Award, which is achieved through the British Council.
Each year, we have a commitment to being an “international School”, which forms part of our School Development Plan, and manifests itself through a range of activities which go beyond the curriculum.
We have links with schools in other countries as part of this activity, including Tabgi School in Bangladesh, Beijing 171 School in China and Gymnasium BSG Memmingen in Germany.
Our students engage with their peers in other countries, and all students will complete a range of activities of an international nature throughout their time at the school.
These activities are:
- - Environmental Awareness and Sustainability
- - Conflict and Peace
- - Fairness and Equality
- - Rights and Responsibilities
- - Active Citizenship
- - Development and Globalisation
- - Identity and Belonging
Examples of the students’ work can be seen around school, as well as the local press, and our current figure-head project is the school’s Eco-garden, which aims to be a self-regulating area for nature.
The Student Council has played a pivotal role in representing the voice of the school, and meets regularly throughout the year to drive these activities beyond the curriculum. In recent times, students have attended Town Council meetings, and went to the Houses of Parliament to discuss various outcomes from the above activities with our local MP and member of the Shadow Cabinet, Victoria Atkins.
We recognise our place within the local community, but also our place within the wider world, and are proud of the work our students do to recognise this.
