Y10 Win Sculpture Competition

The Y10 competed in the Lincolnshire show schools challenge this year. Their task was to design and make a sculpture that celebrated the Lincolnshire Agricultural Society. The sculpture had to be made from recycled or reclaimed material. Since January, they worked hard over lunch times and some games lessons. They created some initial ideas and modelled them. The students were allocated a mentor, Alan Stennet, who presents BBC radio Lincolnshire's farming slot on a Sunday morning, who visited school to help them with ideas. They worked hard to produce an excellent display stand and sculpture ready for the show, exhibiting some beautiful paint and blacksmith work.

The students spoke very well as they recounted their experience to the judges. They showed the judges around their wonderful sculpture, answering the difficult array of questions they were asked.

After a second warm day at the show, the students gathered to hear the results from the judges. They had to wait for their category to be announced, theirs being one of the last. I am pleased to say that all of their hard work paid off and they won the challenge! Apparently, the big wigs at the Agricultural society were extremely impressed with their sculpture and had asked for it to be installed into the Epic Centre, the events centre at the showground. It was a fantastic two days, and the students did the school and Miss Hebden proud.
