Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School Horncastle

Schools County Golf Championships 2023

On Friday 28th April, Neve Begley (Y12), Archie Qualtrough (Y11), Henry Price (Y9) and Wilf Trestrail (Y8) competed in the schools county golf championships at Seacroft golf club.

In order for students to qualify to compete in this competition, they needed to have a handicap of lower than 14, this highlights how high the standard of each student was. The highest handicap golfer representing QEGS was playing off 10.6, we are very fortunate to have a group of very talented young golfers.

Seacroft golf course, is among one of the top courses in Great Britain. It is a traditional links course tucked away on the coast at the south end of Skegness. Because of its situation on the coast, it is open to the elements and this was no different on Friday 28th April, making it difficult for all the players in cold and blustery conditions.

Despite the weather conditions, the students from QEGS played excellent golf. Neve and Archie both finished 3rd in their respective individual competitions, Henry’s short game was brilliant. He was thoroughly complimentary of the hot food served at the half way hut. For Wilf it was his first experience of playing in a schools golf competition and playing with students a lot older than him in his group. However, he didn’t let the occasion get to him as he played some fantastic shots, especially off the tee. For, Mr. Cope it was a pleasure to walk around the course and watch our students in action.
