Macmillan Norfolk Coast Mighty Hike, The Knighty Hikers Story

We travelled to Norfolk on Friday 13th (!) ready for our Macmillan half marathon Mighty Hike in aid of raising funds for cancer support. Our team of three Knighty Hikers had already raised £772 for this fantastic cause.

On the morning of our half marathon, we were ushered to the start line, the gates closed behind us and we were told that we would be walking 14.5 miles (not 13 as expected…) and 4 miles of the route would be along a shingle beach, no escape now! Encouraged by sheer determination and several bars of Kendal Mint Cake, tooth decay not being my primary concern, we set off.

We covered a wide variety of terrain and conquered several hills along the north Norfolk coast and eventually came to our 7 mile pit stop where I refueled on a quantity of pineapple and cereal bars, we then continued on our merry way with the shingle beach waiting for us.

The last two miles were the toughest, however, the finish line was looming ahead, I crossed the line in 5 hours, 13 minutes and 39 seconds. There was a great sense of achievement by all those who had taken part, those with relatives and friends who had been affected by this awful disease and those who had gone through treatment themselves and managed to come out the other side to complete this amazing event.
