Golfing Success

On Wednesday 27th April, three of QEGS most talented golfers Neve Begley (Y11), Archie Qualtrough (Y10) and Henry Price (Y8) took part in the Schools County Championships at Gainsborough Golf Club.

All three students had very impressive handicaps of 13 or below and were competing against some of the best young golfers in Lincolnshire. Neve, Archie and Henry arrived early to ensure they were fully prepared to take on a challenging and unfamiliar course. Prior to arrival, they were given their tee times and who they were playing with/ against.

Despite, being nervous and excited, Neve, Archie and Henry all performed excellent tee shots off the 1st tee, in front of a large crowd of officials, teachers and parents. So off they went, down the 1st fairway to navigate the difficulties of the course. Over 3 hours later after teeing off, the students returned to the club house with score cards in hand. Neve, Archie and Henry were pleased with their performances, but like a true professional felt they could’ve have done better.

After the last group had finished, the presentation ceremony began. As QEGS had three students competing Neve, Archie and Henry had a chance of winning both individual and a team awards. Unfortunately, the individual awards were presented to students from other schools, however the team award was still up for grabs. After a tense wait, the winners were finally announced….QEGS Horncastle. Proudly (and in some disbelief) Neve, Archie and Henry went up to collect their awards.

The team won by a massive 6 shots in a 9 team competition and won the Harries Shield. They will now represent the Lincolnshire Schools in the National Schools Championship, which is hosted at Woodhall Spa Golf Club in July.
