Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School Horncastle

Girls Tennis Match v Spalding High School

Year 9/10

Following a three year gap in competition tennis and therefore missing out on the lower age group, our year 9/10 squad eagerly anticipated their first match against Spalding.

All of our fixtures this year are home matches played at Horncastle Tennis Club.

Four singles matches saw the honours even between both schools so the doubles pairings would prove decisive! The No 1 pairing of Maggie Ward and Erin Wilkinson played extremely well to win a tie break set 7-6. The No 2 pairing of Flora Gemmell and Poppy Pearson lost a tight set 4-6 so once again the match score was tied 3-3. QEGS were awarded the championship tie break decision so became worthy winners of an excellent match played in terrific spirit.

QEGS won 7-6 overall.

Well done girls.

Year 7/8

First time representatives on the tennis team this year were Rachel Ward, Lily Daykin, Zoe Butterfield and Penny Lynn.

QEGS were well matched with their opponents with many games going to ‘deuce’ and the matches were well fought. After the singles rounds the match score read 3-1 to Spalding with Penny having a fantastic match to win her rubber 6-2. It all rested on the doubles pairings.

Rachel and Lily dug deep and kept the pressure on their opponents who they had each lost to in the singles – and pulled off a superb 7-6 win. The second pairing of Zoe and Penny, although playing well were unable to draw the match.

Spalding won 8-4.

Well played girls.
