Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School Horncastle

Girls Football Tournament - 2022/2023

The girls football tournaments for the 2022/23 season got underway on Wednesday at the astroturf in Horncastle. It was fantastic to see 9 local schools in attendance and nearly 100 girls playing football throughout the evening.

The standard of competition was higher than previous years, with the players showing a high level of skill, fitness and competitiveness.

The QEGS team which was made up of Y8 students and five Y7 students (who were representing the school for the first time) worked fantastically as a team, they worked hard to keep possession throughout and with Leah and Lily challenging the opposition keeper at every opportunity, we were able to put teams under pressure. QEGS faced a strong KEVIGS team in the semi-final emerging as 2-0 winners and then a thrilling QEGS v Banovallum final saw QEGS net another 2 goals to win the match 2-0.

Well done to all of the girls that took part, you should be very proud of yourselves!

A big thank you to our outstanding referees for the event, Y11 students: Noah Janney, Charlie Spencer and Stuart Byrom. The boys were fantastic throughout. Also, a special thank you to our team manager Charlotte Helliwell. What role models they are!
