Gabriel's goal seals QEGS' first 3 points
Wednesday 15th October
The Priory Ruskins Academy 0-2 QEGS Horncastle
Lincolnshire Senior B League
A much better sixth form performance this week, earning them their first 3 points of the season. Even with the poor pitch condition, they managed to secure a 2-0 victory against Priory Ruskin Academy in Grantham. QEGS' midfield created a lot of chances early on, with our forwards narrowly missing the target. This was the case for a lot of the first half, but they showed resilience and continued to push for the opener. The game then became a closer contest, with the opposition starting to get at our defence. However, the defence stood strong, as they did all game, and managed to keep us level. Rohan Rai had a couple of good chances at the end of the half, with one narrowly floating wide of the post. However, the score was 0-0 going into the break.
The second half was much more entertaining, with an early chance created by Henry Vear for Krish Barla, but the defender managed to intervene. Overall, the half was controlled by QEGS, with most of the half played in the oppositions final third. As a result, QEGS secured the opening goal of the game. A Rohan Rai corner deflected by a Priory Ruskin defender led to 1-0 QEGS. They continued to apply pressure which then eventually led to a second towards the end of the game. Rohan Rai laid the ball off to Gabriel Maguire-Furness outside of the box, and after a shout from Flynn Bergens to shoot, he struck the ball into the top corner, making it 2-0 to QEGS. The game was then seen out by the sixth form, as they brought home the first victory of the season.
MOTM: After a solid defensive display from Maro Abada, he earned himself man of the match.
