Eight goal thriller
A frustrating afternoon for the sixth form football team as we were limited to a 4-4 draw at home to St George’s Academy in a game that could have led to much more. After showing hopeful signs early on, a skilful header at the near post put us 0-1 down. However, our side showed great resilience and Gabriel Maguire-Furness slotted the ball into the bottom corner from the edge of the box to equalise. Furthermore, Krish Barla capitalised on a handling mistake from the opposition goalkeeper to put us in front. Despite dominating the half in terms of quality and physicality, a St George’s free kick found its way into the back of the net and we came in at half time drawing 2-2. Once again, our good play paid off as Krish finished from a tight angle after making it first to an awkward ball that left their goalkeeper out of position. However, a poor spell defensively meant that we conceded twice in quick succession from 2 well-taken goals, meaning that we went 4-3 down. Although 7 goals had already been scored in the game, Krish slotted the equaliser home to complete his hat trick and put us back on level terms. In the closing stages of the game, even our best efforts from Ed Chambers and Harry Jackson whistled past the post and 2 goals were disallowed due to decisions of fine margins. Ultimately, time ran out and the game concluded as a 4-4 draw.
MOTM: Despite solid performances from lower sixth students James Thomsett and Rohan Rai, Krish’s hat trick and creativity earned him a well-deserved nomination for man of the match.
