Celebrating Sixth Form Life - Nat Sutcliffe Wins Bronze at World Drug-Free Powerlifting Championships in Rome!
On Sunday 15th June, Nat Sutcliffe proudly represented Great Britain at the World Drug-Free Powerlifting Championships in Rome, Italy. Competing in the junior deadlift category for the 75kg weight class, Nat faced tough international competition in a field of six lifters, including several strong contenders from Moldova.
Having qualified with a personal best of 157.5kg at the British Championships, Nat entered the event well-prepared. Despite challenging conditions at the venue, including intense heat, no air conditioning, and a long wait before lifting at 3pm after arriving at 7:30am - he remained focused, hydrated, and energised throughout the day.
Nat opened with a confident 150kg lift, followed by a superb new personal best of 170kg. In contention for a podium finish, he attempted an ambitious 180kg on his final lift. Although he came close, the lift was not successful. Fortunately, his main rival also missed their final attempt, securing Nat the bronze medal.
It was a proud moment for his family, who were there to cheer him on and wave the flag. Nat now sets his sights on the European Championships in September, where he aims to successfully complete that 180kg lift and climb higher on the podium.
