Brain Day 12th January 2023

Year 12 and 13 psychology A Level students were fortunate to experience ‘Brain Day’ an introductory tutorial in neuroscience. Dr Guy Sutton really captured their attention, bringing to life the brains anatomy and application to real life.

“Guy has held previous academic appointments at several universities, including Manchester, Manchester Metropolitan and Cambridge Universities. Until summer 2022, he was Honorary (Consultant) Assistant Professor in the Division of Psychiatry at University of Nottingham. Guy has lectured in neuroscience and genetics to a range of undergraduate and postgraduate students, including medics, biologists and psychologists and continues to run advanced neuroanatomy days at universities around the UK. He has conducted research projects and data analysis for various organisations, including the Department of Health and the Medical Research Council.” https://www.medicalbiology.co.uk/about

Students rated the event 5 out of 5, highly recommending it for any student studying A Level Psychology. Bionic brains, mind-boggling technologies, neuroplasticity, the brain and criminality, were amongst some of the stimulating and though-provoking areas that were covered. Dr Sutton performed a brain dissection (using a sheep’s brain), giving students had the opportunity to see brain anatomy up close. It was a fabulous day and a brilliant opportunity for staff and students alike.
