Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School Horncastle

Extracurricular

The school organises a variety of trips, activities and clubs throughout the year.

Physical Education

PE is at the heart of the school which is facilitated by a large sports hall, the main hall and extensive playing fields. The school also frequently uses the local swimming pool, fitness suite, tennis club, squash club and AstroTurf facilities. Our sailing club operates at Hykeham Sailing Club, where students learn to sail and develop the skills required for competitive and recreational sailing. The Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme is also well established at bronze and silver levels at the school.

As a department we encourage participation and competition in a variety of sports with teams in football, rugby, netball, hockey, athletics, cross country, badminton, rounders, table tennis and cricket.

The Arts

Our school has a long tradition of successful music and drama. Music lessons are available and many of our pupils are involved in our weekly extracurricular music programme including a wide range of choirs and ensembles across all music genres and styles. We have an annual concert programme, and our drama and music departments also work collaboratively to produce a musical production bi-annually.

Venture Overseas

We are twinned with a private school in the south of France (near Saint Etienne) and with a gymnasium near Hannover in Germany.

There are many trips organised throughout the year to a variety of places in the UK and overseas. Larger residential visits with community projects are also available for students to get involved in including Project Nepal (Global Action), Operation Wallacea and World Challenge.
