QEGS football teams continue to dominate

What a way to end the term for the Year 8 boys!

Mr Cope took a team of 15 footballers to Skegness to compete against three other local schools in an 11 a side tournament. Much expectation was on the shoulders of the team, with Year 7, 9 and 10 boys already victorious in their own football fixtures.

The afternoon kicked off with QEGS playing Skegness Academy. Although it took the first half for the team to find their football legs, the 3-1 victory was secured in the second half, with goals from James Thomsett, Charlie Holland and Logan Henderson.

Match number two followed quickly with a more comfortable win against Barnes Wallis. The match saw a great performance by the attacker Charlie Holland who added to his goal tally with a hat-trick! Joe Bush did not have those numbers but he had some style, curling a ball into the goal from 30 yards out. Job done, QEGS ended the game with a 4-0 victory. An air of optimism followed them into the third and final game against the host team, Skegness Grammar.

The pressure was on and Skegness had a point to prove. The QEGS defence battled hard and held their ground. After a motivational team talk from Mr Cope at half time, Logan and Will Bussey found the back of the net in the second half. The whistle blew, 2-0 was the hard-fought result. Game, tournament and victory for QEGS, adding Year 8 to the PE Department's winning streak. It was an afternoon to remember!
