Foyle Young Poets

Maaria Rajput, year 12, was a commended winner in this year's Foyle Young Poets Award- this is the world's biggest poetry competition for teens, receiving over 13500 entries from as far afield as Georgia, the USA and Thailand, as well as from every postcode in the UK.  On the 4th of November, Maaria attended the awards ceremony, held at the National Theatre, London, to collect her prize and listen to poetry readings.
The competition was judged by poets Mona Arshi and Anthony Anaxagorou. Monas Arshi said, "Many poems employed a slant glaze to arrive at a simple universal emotional truth. "Anthony Anaxagorou said, "I've long admired the Foyle Young Poets Award for its uncanny ability to spot tomorrow's poets...it has been both an honour and a privilege to judge this year's competition."
