Sporting Highlights
District Cross Country Championships
The District Cross Country Championships in Louth took place in November and over 40 students from Year 7 to 11 took part. The course was extremely hard, and it was a cold windy day. We were extremely successful as 14 of our students finished in the top 16 of their respective races to qualify for the County Championships at Stamford in January. Standout performances came from Lydia Ratcliff (Year 7) and Flynn Greetham (Year 9) who both won their events.
Netball
Last year in the Coastal & Wolds League the current Year 8 finished as runners-up, but they were determined to go one better this year. They won all their games and did indeed finish as winners. The team had an average goal difference of 16 goals over the season.
In the U16 National Schools Competition, Year 11 finished as runners-up in the Coastal & Wolds District tournament and therefore qualified to play in the Lincolnshire School finals in Stamford. With a much-depleted team, they finished a very creditable 7th in Lincolnshire.
In the U19 National Schools Competition, the 6th form team easily finished as winners in the Coastal & District tournament. They also went onto Stamford for the Lincolnshire School finals.
Tennis
The U13s girls’ tennis team won their league in the summer term and in October played Spalding High School in the county final. The match was one sided, and our team won five out of the six matches played. Congratulations to Riley McElnea, Rachel Ward, Emillyanna Kokinova, Lea Frick and Jemima Gemmell.
Youth Commonwealth Success
Our very own Yemisi Akande took part in the Commonwealth Youth Games in Trinidad and Tobago. Yemisi has kindly written about her experience for us.
“It was an honour and a thrilling opportunity to represent England over the summer at the 2023 Commonwealth Youth Games in Trinidad and Tobago in the 100m and the mixed 4x100m relay. In my events, 100m, I came 6th in the final with a personal best of 11.6s and the mixed 4x100m, taking first leg and coming home with a silver medal. Being able to spend two weeks competing abroad with other athletes my age, doing the sport I love, and in a beautiful and welcoming country, it was a moment I’ll never forget.”
