School trips

Barcelona Bound!

Five members of staff and 41 very enthusiastic students set off from Horncastle to East Midlands Airport where they boarded a flight to Barcelona on Monday 16th October.

While away students fully immersed themselves in Spanish culture using their Spanish language skills and experienced some of the best architecture and galleries Europe has to offer.

Particular highlights of the trip included our time spent at Park Guell and La Sagrada Familiar where we were able to appreciate the work of the world-renowned architect and designer Antoni Gaudi. The students were mesmerised by the intricate nature of his designs.

The group also enjoyed our visit to the Dali Theatre-Museum where we were able to explore Dali’s vast collection of surrealist work.

The trip was a wonderful cultural experience for our students and was thoroughly enjoyed by all.

Bright Lights, Big City

Drama, Art & Music students descended upon London to embrace the arts offered by the capital at the end of November.

After arriving in London just after lunch, we immediately made our way to The London Dungeon. Students were taken on an immersive historical journey that explored London’s darkest history. We then made a quick stop at the hotel to drop off luggage before heading out for a bite to eat at Hard Rock Cafe. Once full, we then made our way to the Adelphi Theatre for our first show: Back to the Future the Musical. Students were mesmerised throughout the performance, and all stressed how thoroughly they enjoyed the show. After a long day of travelling and exploring the city, we headed to the hotel for a well deserved rest before another busy day.

After a good night’s sleep, we were up early to enjoy a full English breakfast and make our way to the Tate Modern. Once inside, students were able to explore an inspiring collection of exhibitions that included both contemporary and modern art from a range of countries, cultures and times.

After the Tate, students were given time to explore the popular shopping area of Covent Garden and watch the famous street performers. Cold weather and the cobbled streets that were decked with Christmas decorations got us all feeling festive. Luckily, before the cold became too much, we headed over for our final theatre performance: Les Misérables, which left the students feeling inspired.

Phew! This was a trip packed with activities, but a great time was had by all. The students were thoroughly engaged, and their impeccable behaviour was an excellent representation of QEGS.
