Travelling to School
The following information will assist you when planning journeys to school.
Travelling by Bus…
Buses start to arrive on site from approximately 8:15 am and continue to do so until around 8:50 am which is the official start of the day when students report to their form rooms. The day finishes at 3:45 pm and buses arrive on site prior to that time to be ready for the journey home. Pedestrians and drivers need to be vigilant and take extra care during this period when the school site is very busy.
Dedicated Bus Services...
Horncastle Education Trust organises a private bus service from Boston and Lincoln via the surrounding villages into Horncastle to cater for a number of pupils who would otherwise be outside the catchment area for Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School and Banovallum School.
These services enable access to our school for students who would otherwise be outside the catchment area or have difficulty travelling to Horncastle. These services are administered by our Finance Team, the Horncastle Education Trust. Should you wish to apply for a place, please complete the form for the relevant service available on the links below.
Transport provided by the Local Authority…
Some students may be entitled to free school transport due to the distance between their home address and the school site. The majority of buses which service our school are provided by the Local Authority solely for school transport. To find out if you are eligible, contact the Schools Transport Services Team at Lincolnshire County Council.
Other public transport services are also available, details can be found via Traveline.
Travelling by Car…
The school site becomes very busy at the start and end of each day with school transport vehicles. If you are travelling to school by car please avoid entering the grounds and find a safe drop off/collection point near by. If you do enter the site during other times, please be aware of the speed restriction (5 mph).
Travelling on Foot…
The pedestrian access to school is via West Street which is adjacent to the A153. Once again, this can be a busy area and should you need to cross the roadway care should always be taken to find a safe place with good visibility of approaching traffic.
Travelling by Bicycle…
As a school we actively encourage those students who wish to do so to travel by bicycle. This is both a healthy and environmentally friendly option and bicycle racks have been provided in school for storage. Care should be taken to ensure personal safety, guidance is available via the Lincolnshire Road Safety Partnership.
Safety on School Premises…
The following points will help to ensure the safety of all students, visitors and staff:
When on foot:
Use the footpaths/pedestrian crossing when moving around the site.
Avoid walking across the vehicle access areas and do not use the vehicle gates.
If crossing the road, find a safe place with good visibility of approaching traffic.
When driving on site:
Avoid driving onto site at busy times (just before and after school).
Keep your speed to less than 5 mph.
Be vigilant for pedestrians.
Only park in designated bays.
Obey instructions from members of staff on duty/marshalling traffic.
