Q. How much PE do students take part in per week?
A. KS3 – Four PE lessons per fortnight and a double games lesson once a fortnight.
KS4 – Three PE lessons per fortnight and a double games lesson once a fortnight.
KS5 – Year 12 a double games lesson once a fortnight and Year 13 a double games lesson once a week
Q. What sports/ activities do you offer on the curriculum?
A. Netball, Football, Rugby, Hockey (Horncastle Astro-turf), Fitness, X-Country, Swimming (Year 7 and 8 only), Boxercise, Badminton, Volleyball, Dodgeball, Gymnastics (Year 7 and 8 only), Handball, Basketball, New Age Kurling, Table Tennis, Tennis, Rounders, Athletics and Cricket. At KS5 – we offer Body Combat. We also have a good relationship with Woodhall Spa Golf Club and have recently organised for students to have golf lessons during their Games lessons – Year 7 and 8. In Year 13 we allow students to go off site to undertake physical exercise e.g. the gym or cycling during their PE lesson.
Q. Do you offer any extra-curricular practices? If so, where and why?
A. We usually organise our extra-curricular timetable around fixtures. But we offer clubs based on the activities listed above. Most of our clubs are run at lunchtimes as most students catch school buses and clash with school fixtures. We do have external clubs such as badminton which is very successful amongst our students.
Q. Do you enter many sporting fixtures? If so, what sports? Are they local, county, regional etc.?
A. We enter as many sporting fixtures as possible. We are very successful in the district when it comes to football, netball, rounders and badminton. Some of our students/ teams compete at county – national level in a range of sports such as tennis, golf, horse riding and football. Fixtures are played all year round, most of the time after school, but some during the school day.
Q. Do you offer GCSE PE? If so, what does it involve? What is your pass rate like?
A. Yes, we do offer GCSE PE. Since the new specification came in (2016) we have achieved 98% 9-5 (56/57). 49% achieving 9-7 (28/57). The course is 60% theory – comprising of two written exam papers (78 marks per paper) and 40% NEA – comprising of being assessed in three activities (25 marks each) and written coursework (25 marks) – 100 marks.
Q. Do you offer A Level PE?
A. Currently we don’t teach A Level PE, however we do offer Sports Leaders Level 3 as part of the enrichment programme at 6th form. This is a popular programme amongst our students and allows them to work in the community and primary schools providing those experiences of teaching / coaching.
Q. How are the students grouped in their PE/ Games lesson?
A. Year 7 – forms for both PE and Games
Year 7-11 are placed in sets for PE (mixed) and Games (single sex)

Q. What is the PE kit at QEGS?
