QEGS go running into the Cross Country County Championships

On Friday 6th December, 50 students from Years 7 to 11 embarked on Louth to take part in the District Cross Country Championships.

After several years of the event being hosted at Hubbards Hills, this year it was moved to Louth Athletics Club, so the students were eager to get their early to walk around the course to familiarise themselves with their new surroundings.
After seeing the course, the students were in confident spirits and were looking forward to challenging themselves on the new course. The students were unfazed by the 40m uphill sprint to the finish line coupled with the gloomy clouds that were gathering above the course at noon.
Students were aware that the top 16 finishes would automatically qualify for the next round, however many of the students were aiming for a top 10 finish or to beat their finish place from the previous year.
All students that competed ran extremely well and were a credit to the school from performing to their best, encouraging their peers as well as showing good sportsmanship at the end of their respective races.
Overall, 11 of our students successfully qualified for the County Round, which will take place on Saturday 18th January at Burghley House, Stamford. These students are:
Jess Frick (2nd) and Amelie Thorpe (5th) in  Y7, Alex Frick (6th) and Harriett Emsell (7th) in Y9, Alex Dunkley (16th) in Y8, Oliver Cawston (2nd) in Y9,  Oliver Cridland (13th), Oliver Fields (8th) and Lewis Janney (11th) in Y10, Matthew Spendlove (1st) and George Parkinson (4th) in Y11.
