A stalwart band of knitters have been working hard all year, meeting on two lunchtimes a week, and using their talents to create handknitted items for various charitable causes. This year we knitted and made pom-poms for 45 tiny hats to support the Innocent Drinks ‘Big Knit’ campaign, where for every hat-wearing smoothie sold, the company donates 25p to Age UK. The group have also been practising their stitches and techniques by making knitted squares, which have been sewn together to make two large blankets. These will be donated to Knit For Peace, a charity who distribute handknitted goods to those in need, both at home and abroad.
The group were very pleased to welcome a few new members as a result of taster sessions run for the ‘Keep Learning’ strand of our whole school focus on mental health and wellbeing. We are also very grateful to our honorary members, Mrs Greaves of Scamblesby and Mrs Macdonald of Fleet Hargate, who regularly send us knitted squares and other items to boost our charitable donations, and also to Ms Varu who sent a kind donation of unwanted knitting tools and yarn all the way from London. We look forward to completing new projects and supporting new causes next year.
