Dr Tim Shephard and ex-QEGS student Sarah Leffler came to QEGS to lead a music workshop with the GCSE and A level students. In addition to providing information about university life and the breadth of music-related degrees available, students developed their knowledge of musicology through various activities. Students had the opportunity to study medieval music notation (quite different to what we see now) and as a whole group, performed an improvisatory counterpoint in the style of J.S. Bach. The session supported both the GCSE and A level syllabuses nicely but also provided students with opportunity to learn beyond this, developing their analysis and reasoning skills. A great couple of hours!
