Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School Sailing Team stormed their annual regatta and came home with two trophies. Beckett Marshall, 15, took first place in the Topper class, with Roisin Waters, 17, achieving second place and Adam Kemp, 15, third. All three sailors not only beat the competition from other Lincolnshire schools, but also managed to finish before a sailor who will sail at the Topper Worlds at Lake Garda in the summer.
Horncastle’s sixteen participating students can be proud of their achievements. QEGS Sailing Club runs during the summer months with students travelling to Hykeham Sailing Club to sail and develop their racing skills. Staff and Sixth form students who have gained RYA Instructor qualifications will be running Learn to Sail courses over the summer. For more information see the LDSA website. Mr O’Neill, who runs QEGS Sailing, is planning to extend participation to Banovallum students next year. The school’s Sailing Club has been running since the 1980s.
