Thursday 28 March 2024 Year 8 English Civil War experience in Newark! 2024 The History department took Year 8 students to visit the Civil War Centre in Newark on the 14th and 18th March. Students had a great day, enjoying a packed itinerary including a role play activity on the trial and execution of Charles I (which included a great prop of his head!). They also were shown around the sights of Civil War Newark including a visit to the castle, where the visible marks of cannon balls can still be seen in the castle walls. Students also looked around the Civil War gallery and enjoyed dressing up in 17th century clothing and armour. Probably the most fun part of the day was the Arms and Armour session where students had to guess the injury and fate of a Civil War soldier by the rather gruesome wound on the realistic prop on each table. They were then shown how to load and fire a musket and had to try to do this in 30 seconds (cue much hilarity - I'm not sure how well our Year 8 students would actually manage as musketeers!). A few students were then dressed as d

Wednesday 27 March 2024 Football Trip On Tuesday 26th March, 48 students (Y10-13) travelled to Wembley Stadium to watch the England men's football team play Belgium in an international friendly. Despite England not winning, it was still a thrilling game to watch with the final score ending 2-2; this included England scoring an injury time equaliser. All students thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity of watching some of the best footballers in the world such as Foden, Bellingham and Doku. In addition to this, for many of the students it was their first experience of attending a live football game (not a bad first game to watch live). Due to the success of the trip, hopefully, this will become an annual event #englandtowineuro24.

Friday 15 March 2024 Psychology Lectures Hosted At QEGS The psychology faculty hosted a morning of lectures, in school, on the 14th March. Dr Amanda Roberts and Dr Tracey Thornborrow from the Psychology Faculty of Lincoln University presented to our Psychology A Level students. We were joined by teachers and psychology students from QEGS Alford. The lectures included, How the sociocultural environment shapes our body image and addiction and gambling disorder. Both academics shared their most recent research and the impact of their findings. It was a fabulous opportunity for the students to engage in psychological research, being shared by the researcher, rather than just reading about it in a textbook. A great morning of psychology and a brilliant opportunity for students to experience university lectures.

Monday 29 January 2024 Pupils Attend VoiceIT On 24th January, students in years 9 and 10 had the opportunity to attend Voice It, a music industry at Lincolnshire Showground organised by Lincolnshire Music Service. During the day, students opted to attend different workshops led by professionals including choral/harmony singing (Mark deLisser, composer & vocal coach on The Masked Singer), vocal performance skills (Hayley Sanderson, vocalist on Strictly Come Dancing, audio and sound production (Hannah Fletcher, BBC Radio Lincolnshire), rap and poetry (Karl Nova), 'LIfe on the Road' (The Drill Hall) and song writing (Elliot Morris, QEGS Alumnus & professional singer songwriter). At lunchtime we were privileged to watch a performance by the band from RAF Cranwell. The day was fun, insightful and provided opportunity for hands-on development of skills. Students thoroughly enjoyed the day and it raised awareness of the vast scope of career opportunities within the music industry, beyond just being on stage. The photos show Jess
