Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School Horncastle

On Thursday 7th June, Mr Cope along with two 6th form students; Chloe Donohue and Evie Gregory took two Y8 boys rounders teams to compete in the District rounders tournament, which was held at Louth Academy.

Both teams were drawn into leagues and played two games each, with the two highest placed teams qualifying for the semi-finals.

QEGS 1 team won both their league games very comfortably beating Louth Academy 5 and a half rounders to 3 rounders and QEGS Alford 7 and half rounders to 1. They finished league winners and played Somercoates Academy in the semi-final. Unfortunately, despite some good fielding the team lost by half a rounder, therefore Somercoates Academy going through to the final.

QEGS 2 team also won both their league games beating Somercoates Academy and John Spendluffe respectively. They faced QEGS Alford in the semi-final and unlike QEGS 1 they were successful and were through to the final.

So QEGS 2 were up against the team they played in their first league game; Somercoates Academy. Confidence was high as the team had already beaten their opponents and this was displayed in the final. Somercoates Academy batted first and only managed to score one rounder, due to some fantastic fielding from QEGS 2. QEGS 2 knew they only needed to score 1 and half rounders from 15 balls to win the tournament. The team remained professional and eventually won the final 5-1.

Mr Cope would like to say thank you to Chloe and Evie for giving up their free time to manage QEGS 2 (the winning team). The Y8 boys much appreciated their support and guidance.
