Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School Horncastle

History is consistently one of the most popular subjects at GCSE and A Level at Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School, Horncastle and has a track record of excellent results over many years at all levels.  It is a popular option and there are usually three sets studying the subject at GCSE, AS and A2 Level.  A significant proportion of our students go on to study History or related subjects (such as Ancient History or Archaeology) at university.
History is taught by specialist teachers from Year 7 upwards.  The History Department consists of two full-time and one part-time members of staff.  In years 7 to 9 pupils are taught in form groups and we follow the National Curriculum.  Option numbers are always strong at GCSE with between 65-75 students opting for History and being taught in groups by option block – there is no setting by ability.  From 2016, we will be following the new Edexcel Syllabus, for GCSE, studying options on the Elizabethan England, the American West, Nazi Germany and The History of Medicine.  At A Level we follow the AQA Syllabus, studying options on Russian, American and British History.  The Head of History is Mr Ambrose and History is also taught by Mr Wright and Mrs Sutcliffe.
