Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School Horncastle

The Music Department consists of one full-time teacher, one part-time teacher and a team of ten peripatetic teachers.  In addition, many other staff members are involved in extracurricular music as performers and/or ensemble directors.  All students study Music from Years 7 to 9 and they have the option of continuing at GCSE and A level.

Years 7 to 9 students follow the National Curriculum for Key Stage 3.  Lessons are varied and theory is taught through practical performance and composition projects.  We cover music from all periods in history, Baroque right through to modern day pop; genres are equally diverse including Western Classical Tradition (symphonies, waltzes, Programme Music, Minimalism), World Music (Indian, African, Irish Folk, Samba) and Popular Music (Blues, Pop, Music Theatre, Film).  All students are taught to read music and creativity is encouraged through group work as well as individual tasks.  GCSE and A level students follow the AQA specifications.  We are proud of our standards; 100% A*-C at GCSE and 100% A-B at AS and A2 Level.
