Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School Horncastle

The Music Department offers a wide range of extracurricular activities to suit all abilities, interests and styles.  We have four choirs (mixed, girls’, male voices, chamber), a wind band, orchestra and jazz band.  In addition, we have many smaller ensembles such as a brass band, Blues band, string ensemble, flute choir, clarinet choir and ukulele band.  Our annual concert programme is well supported and includes an annual carol concert, spring concert, jazz evening, piano recital and singing recital.  Bi-annually we work collaboratively with the Drama Department on a musical production.  Recent performances have included Oklahoma, Fiddler on the Roof, Oliver and Honk.

Not to stop there, we support county events and regularly participate in activities outside of school.  Our most recent performances have been at the Lincolnshire Schools’ Prom (Embassy Theatre, Skegness), Music for Youth Regional Festival and National Cycling Championships Samba Festival (Cadwell Park).  Many students are also in the local music centre and county level bands and orchestras.  We are a partner school with the Lincolnshire Music Service.

We pride ourselves in our provision of music and a high percentage of QEGS students attend one or more activities.  We believe that music should be accessible to all; we are an inclusive department and if we don’t offer something of interest to someone then we endeavour to do so.
