County Champions Badminton 24

An extremely successful and proud moment was accomplished on Wednesday 24th January, as the KS4 Boys Badminton team won the county championships at Grantham Meres Leisure Centre. As a result, they have now qualified to represent Lincolnshire in the regional finals; this event will take place in March with the venue to be confirmed. It’s over a decade since QEGS have made it to this stage of the competition in this sport. So this just shows how fantastic this occasion was.

The team comprising of Michael Ruan, Rohan Hande, Charlie Giles, Shreyas Chingale and Harish Kumar were outstanding in their performances, both in singles and doubles game play.

In the group stage the team was drawn against Louth Academy, Holbeach Academy and LSST Priory. In each match the team played 5 games, two singles and three doubles. After the three group matches, the team had won 14 games, only losing one. The team had comfortably won their group and were now through to the final against the other group winner, The Priory Ruskin Academy, Grantham. This was going to be the team’s biggest test and it proved to be. However despite losing the first game, the boys held their nerve and eventually won the match 3-2.

Throughout the event, the boys showed excellent sportsmanship towards the opposing schools, being very gracious in their success as well as being very supportive of each other, which helped them get over the line. It was a pleasure for Mr Cope to attend this event with the team.
